Today officially concludes phase one of my IVF process. For the last three weeks I have been on birth control pills to keep everything in my reproductive area calm. I finished my last birth control pill on Sunday night. Your period usually will start once you finish your pills three to five days later. In fertility lingo today would be considered calendar day one for me since I got my period. I have to say, it’s still a little strange telling the world that I got my period through a blog. My husband and I both started taking an antibiotic which we will take twice a day for the next ten days. This is a very important step before IVF, you don’t want any type of infection lingering in your body especially since I just had my hysteroscopy procedure.
I will now move on to phase two of my IVF journey also referred to as the “Stimulation” phase, I am scheduled for blood work and an ultrasound this week (you go in on day two or three of your cycle), from the results of my blood work and ultrasound the doctor will give me my first round of instructions for my medication doses. I will be “Stimulating” no less than ten days. I am actually very interested to see how all the injections go and how I feel on them. I know the IVF injections are a huge hurdle for a lot of women so I have planned on filming how I prepare for the injections and how I inject them into my stomach.
I filmed a short video on all the medication below that was delivered via FedEx yesterday so you could see how much medication you will be receiving and giving yourself. It seems overwhelming at first but once you go over it a couple of times you begin to feel very comfortable with the unusual practice of giving yourself glorious injections.
My last IUI, I did all the injections by myself since my husband has some kind of issue with needles. Apparently he is deathly afraid of needles which I thought was a joke until I scheduled our blood work together and YES I repeat YES…..it’s no joke. I have new and improved plans for him this time around. He will be part of every second, don’t worry, smelling salts are near by and of course I could always film him if he gives me any good footage.
